Brooklyn’s Empire Stores redevelopment is a 330,000 square foot renovation of a historic warehouse in the Fulton Ferry Historic District of DUMBO. The proposed design was a response to an RFP from The Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Empire Stores’ combination of leisure, cultural, dining and shopping opportunities would increase the visitor traffic to the DUMBO/Brooklyn waterfront area. The entire first floor of the warehouse is designed into a retail market open to the outdoors. The demand for commercial office space also was clearly addressed by providing office space in two stories of the renovated warehouse. The renovation is also designed to meet LEED Silver standards.
